Congratulations in order
Congratulations to Joanne Harkonen, Chuck Kaysner and Terri Malinowski for being selected to the Northshore School District’s “Wall of Honor”. All three have an important history with our Scholarship Foundation.
They are among eight so honored this August, the 12th year the Wall of Honor has selected distinguished volunteers, alums and staff to have their names added to the honor rolls at Pop Keeney Stadium in Bothell. The Wall of Honor Committee will be able to award three $5,000 scholarships in 2023.
Prior to her retirement, Joanne Harkonen was a long-time counselor at Bothell High School. She served the Foundation 19 years as our Scholarship Program Coordinator and was coordinator of our annual community breakfast introducing each year’s scholarship recipients. Joanne and her husband Dave Harkonen sponsored a scholarship in cooperation with the BHS Faculty helping a Bothell graduate find their way to college. The selection committee reminded that her students affectionately referred to her as “mom”. “Her dedication to community service and to the success of thousands of her ‘kids’ is exceptional. She is always willing to volunteer when help is needed.”
Chuck Kaysner was a key microbiologist with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in the Seattle District for 35 years. Chuck and his sister Marlynn McLaughlin (Wall of Honor 2015) maintain the annual Rivergrove-Kaysner Memorial Scholarship for a Bothell graduate. A charter member of the BHS Alumni Association for over 27 years, he has been an officer and board member. He was the association's liaison to the Scholarship Foundation of Northshore for years until the Kaysner family scholarship was established.
Chuck was heavily involved in local sports organizations, including Northshore Little League, the Northshore Youth Soccer Association and the Northshore Youth Basketball Association. He received the Canyon Creek Elementary School Golden Acorn Award for his volunteer work.
Terri Malinowski has always been passionate about the Northshore community. Settling in Woodinville in 1959, she knows every corner, character, fact and twist of its history. In the early 1960s Terri wrote a weekly column for the Bothell Northshore Citizen newspaper, was named the women's editor in 1967 and later became the news editor. She was named Northshore School District's first communications director in 1979. Until retiring in 1995, her communications expertise was a valuable addition to the fast-growing school district.
Terri played a major role in forming the Bothell and Woodinville historical societies, was a volunteer for the Kenmore Historical Society and remains active in the Woodinville Heritage Society and the Bothell Heritage Society and Museum.
