donor sponsor (n) – provides scholarship funding; determines scholarship purpose, qualifications and eligibility; reviews student applications; interviews finalists; selects winning applicant. (2) is frequently referenced by Scholarship Foundation of Northshore as turning a graduate’s college dream into a college degree!
A great satisfaction of continuing to be or becoming a SFN Donor Sponsor is getting to know the many worthy candidates, learning of their career plans, following their academic progress and learning the impact their scholarship has had in realizing their dream.
Anabel Moore, a 2021 graduate of Woodinville High School, will be one of 17 Woodinville grads who this spring will have been awarded a four-year, $10,000 scholarship in memory of Parker Moore. Anabel is completing her first year of studies at Yale University. She took time to express her thanks to Donor Sponsors Doug and Julee Moore for selecting Anabel..
In part, Anabel wrote “I've fallen in love with New Haven and the broader Yale community; I am thriving there and could not be happier with my choice to attend where I've landed. I've shifted my major a bit towards the History of Science, Medicine, and Public Health with a possible concentration in French or Global Affairs and am also possibly considering Yale's 5-year B.S./MPH program, though I'm not entirely sure at this point (I am still completing pre-medical studies).
“I am in Branford College, one of Yale's oldest residential colleges, and am also a staff writer for the Yale Daily News' WKND and Magazine (long-form journalism) desks. I'm writing for the Yale Globalist as well (an undergraduate global affairs magazine) and playing club soccer/participating in club running.
“All things considered, it's been a semester beyond my wildest dreams; I finished the term with good marks and enjoyed my classes. I'm excited for next semester's courses; I'll be taking introductory chemistry/biology + lab courses, as well as a course called Making Climate Knowledge in conjunction with Yale's Peabody Museum and an art history course in the Yale Art Gallery. The plethora of opportunities at Yale is truly dazzling. I could not be happier.
“I am forever grateful for your and the scholarship's support. It means the world as I move forward in my academic and professional career, and I want you to know that I am continually honored to carry forward your son Parker's (44 Strong) legacy and impact. The scholarship goes further than you know, and it truly eases the burden of Yale's extremely hefty tuition on my family.
I must add one thing to the “definition” – Becoming a Donor Partner “is a most rewarding experience.”
In our next edition we will identify three community individuals who were instrumental in the Foundation’s success during its earlier years. A $5,000 Northshore Community Scholarship will be awarded this year to recognize their contributions.
