On occasion, when approaching a potential Donor Partner to join our Foundation and offer a scholarship, I am asked how helpful that scholarship will be in the eyes of the winner.
Bothell graduating senior Salima Mayanja had a unique visual and written way of answering that question. She is studying for a degree in physics at the University of Washington in Seattle, the recipient of one of five scholarships awarded in 2021 by the Northshore Rotary Club. The Rotarian sponsor got this letter of appreciation last summer from Salima:
“Disregarding the fear of seeming unprofessional, I must type in all caps: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP! I am so grateful for your generous donation to my college fund.
“I have been struggling to save and help my family in a time of crisis, so this scholarship means so very much to me. A weight has been lifted off my shoulders, and I feel so excited for this upcoming school year. This incredible opportunity provides me with the time to focus on studying instead of taking more hours at work to cover costs and fees.
“No amount of words can show my gratitude, so maybe this photo will suffice. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
“My family and I would like to give you another thanks, and I promise this money will not go to waste. I have some rather large aspirations, and it is so kind of you to help me meet them. I am excited for where I will go with less stress in college!”
Thanks again - Salima Mayanja
