Featured Scholarship of the Week
Parker Moore Memorial Scholarship
Since 2015 the Moore family and friends have sponsored 38 four-year scholarships for Woodinville High School graduates and students at Linfield College which totals $423,158. The grants are funded by family and friend donations and the annual Parker Moore Memorial Golf Tournament (this year on July 25, 2022),at Glendale Golf and Country club.
It is being presented by family and friends of 2013 Woodinville graduate Parker Moore, a student studying business at Linfield College at the time of his death in November of 2014. Parker died in McMinnville, OR the result of a tragic random act of violence at a convenience store. His death at age 20 rocked the college and Woodinville communities. Friends eulogized him for his “big heart” and his being “a best friend.”
One of five renewable Parker Moore grants is being awarded to Jason Kim of Woodinville High School who plans to attend University of Washington to study computer science. Twelve graduates presently in college will receive Parker Moore renewals.
Scholarship applicants are asked what “service to others” means to them. In this newsletter series we report excerpts of their responses.
Valeria - At the food bank, I was able to meet new people and learn about what items to donate in order to help low-income families. I enjoyed attending the food bank because even with simple actions, like helping to clean up or restocking the food bank area, I could physically see how I was a productive member of this small community.
A Plug for S.A.S.
After a two-year covid interruption, the Secondary Academy for Success will resume its annual spring concerts at McMenamins in Bothell at 7 p.m. May 26.
