Notes to Wrap up Year 38
The Foundation is poised to provide 89 scholarships to Northshore graduating seniors in the spring of 2023. This will include six scholarships from new Donor Partners…the husband-wife team stepping up at the last minute. Jeff Mash and Kathleen Eggers will each award $4,000 scholarships at Inglemoor. (More later).
The Foundation Board set May 16, 2023 for an in-person recognition breakfast for scholarship winners and their sponsors and families. The event will be held at 7 a.m. at the Evergreen Church in Bothell. The past two years this acclamation has been done virtually due to pandemic concerns. For 30+ years, this event was held with the cooperation of the Northshore Senior Center in their spacious hall. As growth of scholarships continues, it has become necessary to seek a larger venue. Our thanks go to both the Senior Center and the Evergreen Church for hosting this community event.
Bothell Kenmore Chamber of Commerce (one of our 50 Donor Partners) made some changes when Executive Director Brittany Caldwell became development director at Cascadia College after many years of stellar leadership of the chamber. She will be succeeded by Danah Abarr, most recently serving as executive director of the South Lake Union chamber. Danah has worked in non-profit chamber and association management for over ten years. She is a foodie and wine lover who enjoys creating community events which bring people together and showcase local businesses. The Foundation looks forward to working with both Brittany and Danah.
The Foundation participated in Giving Tuesday in December. Scholarship supporters donated a total of $3,510 toward a future Northshore Community Scholarship. The Foundation seeks donations specifically for the $5,000 annual Scholarship. (Click Donate on website home page sf-ns.org).
Maggie Way (above) served as president of the Northshore Interact Club and is one of the 2022 winners of the Northshore Community Scholarship. A 2022 Woodinville graduate, she is studying education at University of Washington. She is pictured here at the December Santa Breakfast staged by the Rotary clubs of Northshore and Woodinville. Maggie was helping a youngster select a warm winter coat.
Never too late to offer a comment on the 2022 Apple Cup and gridiron battle in the Palouse. It also became a friendly battle of band directors.
Halftime shows at the Apple Cup were under the direction of Bothell’s Brad McDavid for the Husky Band and his son, Skylar, a 2021 graduate of Bothell High School and the recipient of the $3,500 renewable Ackerman Music Scholarship. Skylar was directing the WSU Cougar Band.
in other NOTES, Connie and Dennis Milliken will have sponsored the Roberts Memorial Music Scholarship in 2023 for the 23rd year, raising its value to $3,000…as this is published, a total of 111 graduating seniors have started online applications for a scholarship. Deadline is February 22…the annual Greater Woodinville Chamber of Commerce dinner and auction will be held March 18, 2023 at Liljebeck Farm in Woodinville. “Raising the Paddle” will benefit the annual chamber college scholarship.
Mash - Eggers Inglemoor Scholarships
Beginning in 2023, Professional financial advisers Jeff Mash and Kathleen Eggers plan to provide $4,000 scholarships each year for Inglemoor graduating seniors. The Kirkland couple also provides similar scholarships at Juanita High School.
Both Jeff and Kathleen grew up in less privileged families. Through the combination of hard work in school and extra jobs they managed to earn the extra assistance of scholarships in both high school and college. The scholarships helped their self esteem and assisted in strong job choices and successful careers. They want to continue to support future generations of hardworking and high achieving students.
Jeff Mash received Bellingham Rotary Club scholarships multiple times. Jeff spent his first three years in public accounting as a CPA and then has gone on to a successful career as a Financial Advisor and Portfolio Manager at Morgan Stanley.
Kathleen Eggers is a native of Seattle, WA who grew up in Rainier Valley in a large family of modest means. She is the eldest of seven children and quite fortunate to have parents who sacrificed greatly by providing their children private education. She was a scholarship recipient from South Seattle Rotary Club.
Kathleen was on her own financially for college. One of Kathleen’s most proud achievements was graduating from Gonzaga University magna cum laude debt free.
