Who will be Winner number 2,271 ?
Plans are well under way for the Foundation’s 39th year offering scholarships in 2023 for graduates of Northshore high schools. Since 1984 the Foundation has awarded $4,335 million to 2,270 graduates.
Year 39 will feature four new scholarships bringing the total to 92 grants for 2023. Generous donors are increasing the value of their scholarships.
Candidates will find the application software going live November 15 at sf-ns.org. Application deadline is February 22, 2023.
The four new opportunities are:
A $5,000 Susan P. Anderson Memorial Scholarship for a Woodinville High School graduate. The scholarship is renewable for a student seeking a career in education.
A $3,500 Dr. Jerry Bates Community Scholarship for a Woodinville High School graduate. The scholarship is renewable. Dr. Bates practiced dentistry for 50 years and is known for his support of sports and events in Woodinville.
A $6,000 Bryant Intern Scholarship for a full-time summer reporting internship program at the Woodinville Weekly. Eligible candidates are planning to pursue the field of journalism, print-electronic-online. Graduates of all high schools may apply.
A $5,000 Erik Ross Williams Memorial Trades Scholarship for a 2023 Inglemoor graduate. Erik graduated at Inglemoor in 2010. The family wishes to select a candidate choosing to study a trade, someone who has overcome a challenging life situation.
Second Scholarship
The Northshore district’s Wall of Honor Committee will be able to award two $5,000 scholarships in 2023 thanks to a donation from Adam Cornell, the retiring prosecuting attorney of Snohomish County. Adam was named to the Wall of Honor in 2016 as a native of Woodinville as well as being a 1991 Woodinville graduate. Haggen food store and pharmacy in Woodinville was a key contributor to the committee’s second 2022 scholarship.
Values Increased
Several of the Foundation’s Donor Partners have generously increased the value of their scholarship, including:
Unlimited Possibilities from $3,000 to $5,000
Rivergrove Kaysner from $2,000 to $2,500
Heart of the Viking from $2,500 to $5,000
Barnum Memorial Music from $2,500 to $3,000
Woodinville Rotary Club from $3,500 to $5,000
Scholarship applicants are asked what “service to others” means to them. We share samples of their responses.
Leven - I was one of 6 directors in this year's student directed one act festival. I cast the show, ran rehearsals, put together lighting designs, blocked scenes, and did costumes all myself. I gained a lot of perspective on all the different aspects of putting on a play, not just acting. After it was over, I couldn't think of anything else I would rather do than continue to take part in show after show after high school.
NEXT EDITION we will feature a scholarship winner who exemplifies how young citizens are taking “service to others” to heart in so many ways.
