As you may know, I serve as Executive Director for the Scholarship Foundation of Northshore. Since 1985, SFN has been providing scholarships to Northshore students looking to fulfill their dream of higher education.
Today, I am asking you to join me in our 2022 Giving Tuesday Campaign to raise $5,000 by November 29 to support one Community Scholarship next year,
Our Community Scholarships are made up entirely of dollars from our community of individual supporters and are open to students at all six Northshore high schools. Your gift of $20, $40, or even $100 will make a huge impact on a student’s ability to afford college.
Please make a gift today by going to our website (Scholarship Foundation of Northshore (sf-ns.org) and clicking on the link that says DONATE in the upper right-hand corner.
For 2023, the Foundation’s goal is to award 86 scholarships, with an average value of $5,000!
Your gift to support our 2022 Giving Tuesday Campaign is greatly appreciated! Please join us and make a gift today! Every dollar adds up!
Warmly, John B. Hughes
Recognition Breakfast returns May 16 - in person
Scholarship recipients will again shine at an in-person event held annually since 1985 to recognize new and past winners. The annual breakfast was put on hold in 2019 during the pandemic years when the Foundation recognized winners virtually in similar ceremonies.
The 2023 breakfast will be held May 16 at 7 a.m. at the Evergreen Church in Bothell. Over the years the Foundation has been indebted to the Northshore Senior Center for serving as host venue. But, as the number of scholarship families continues to grow, the Board decided to engage the community-minded congregation to meet an anticipated larger attendance. There will be plenty of parking! More details in future newsletters. Please add this special May 16 event to your 2023 calendar.
Foundation adds sixth school
The 19 seniors in the first class to graduate from Innovation Lab High School are eligible to apply for 2023 Foundation scholarships that are not school specific. Northshore’s sixth secondary high school opened in facilities in Canyon Park in 2020.
To learn more about the school, check this link: innovationlab.nsd.org/our-school.
At Innovation Lab, students explore their passions, while identifying their purpose in their community and in the world. Meet the Ravens of I.L.H.S.
Fourth New 2023 Scholarship
One of our four new scholarships for 2023 is the Erik Ross Williams Memorial Trades Scholarship for a graduate of Inglemoor High School. Erik is a 2010 graduate of Inglemoor whose primary interest was the automotive technology field. More details are available about this $5,000 scholarship on the Williams scholarship web page on www.sf-ns.org.
The scholarship is being offered by the Kimberly and Alan Williams family and Erik’s friends. “Our hope is for this scholarship to be a low- barrier award for a student who has been identified as an overcomer in their life journey. We all have things to overcome in life whether it be educational challenges, family or personal struggles, depression, or addiction, everyone has strengths that can shine when given the opportunity.
